Well it’s been over 2 months since I’ve updated the blog. There’s been a lot going on with the holiday’s, work and taking care of Ethan.
Ethan has had so many new developments over the past few months. At 10 months he started crawling rather than creeping. It was completely out of the blue. We were getting ready to leave for Fresno for Thanksgiving and all of a sudden he started crawling and never stopped.
Poor guy teethed pretty bad for the whole month of November. We took a trip to Palm Springs for Jarrod’s 30th b-day. We had a couple horrible teething experiences there. Grandpa Bill had to make an emergency trip to the drug store to get baby Tylenol for us. Ethan was just beside himself from the pain.
The night before Thanksgiving we left Ethan with Grandma Karen, not thinking a thing about it. I got a text early in the morning that starting at 1am Ethan had been waking up every hour on the hour, screaming. Because we hadn’t mentioned giving him Tylenol, she didn’t feel comfortable giving it to him. Poor guy slept through most of his first Thanksgiving day. The Tylenol doesn’t relieve him 100% but it does help a lot.
Since Thanksgiving he’s gotten 4 more teeth. He’s got 4 on the top and 2 on the bottom. His latest tooth popped up just after his 1st birthday. The day after his 1st birthday he started standing. A few days after that he took his first couple of steps. He hasn’t taken anymore since, but I think he will be walking really soon.
Christmas was a lot of fun. It was the first year we were able to celebrate in Long Beach. Granny, Grandpa Chuck, Great Grandma Katherine and Grandpa Bob traveled from up North and Colorado to visit. Ethan was one spoiled little guy! He has enough toys now to last him the next 3 years.
For New Years, we had a New Year’s party at our house. Uncle Mike, Aunt Joleena, and Jenna came to stay with us. The New Year’s party was a lot of fun, but I don’t think we will be having another one for awhile! With a 1 year old in the house, it’s a lot to plan for! Ethan was a little trooper on NYE and stayed up till about 10:00pm.
For his first birthday he had 2 celebrations. The first one was 1 week before his birthday. We celebrated with close friends and family. Ethan’s Auntie Tara and Cousin Emma came from Sacramento to celebrate. With the help of a friend, I made Ethan an Elephant carrot cake. He really enjoyed it! A few months ago, I thought he may not be able to eat birthday cake because he was having a lot of trouble with texture. I guess practice makes perfect, because for the past month he has done really great eating just about anything. Knock on wood, but so far, he’s not a picky eater. Any time Jarrod or I are eating anything, he wants some. Eating is his latest favorite thing to do.
On Ethan’s actual birthday his Uncle Mike got married in Fresno. The wedding was later in the day so we were able to celebrate with Ethan in the morning and afternoon. His Grandma Karen gave him a big blueberry muffin with a candle and we sang to him. Just before leaving for Fresno, I stopped by the fire station and had them install a new front facing car seat for Ethan. He loves it!
I don’t know if I mentioned it in a prior post, but Ethan is in daycare full time time now. I think it’s a good thing for him and I like that there are several other kids there his age. I think it’s important for him to have the social interaction. He likes the ladies at daycare so much that when I picked him up the other day, he wanted to go to one of them rather than me. Some people might be offended, but I was actually glad that he likes them so much.
Bedtime used to be a breeze, but no longer! Unless he falls asleep on one of our laps while we watch TV, he throws a huge tantrum. Anyone with advice, my ears are open! I know consistency is key, and I need to be better about that. He also can’t stand to have his diaper changed. He squiggles all around and tries to get away. Not fun when you’ve got a dirty one.
New words include: duck, dog, and doorbell. My sister swears she heard him say peekaboo and my mom and I heard him say gently once.
A couple weeks ago I started putting Ethan in the big tub. It’s a little nerve wracking because he will crawl and sometimes tries to stand, but he’s really enjoying it.
A couple more updates. Ethan went to the Dr. for his 1 year appointment a couple days ago. He is 21 pounds 4 oz and 30″ tall. He is only in the 25 percentile for weight and in the 50 percentile for height. We started him on whole milk just before his 1st birthday and the transition went well.
Hopefully I’ll have more updates soon!
