36 weeks pregnant & 2 1/2 year old

36 Weeks Pregnant:

My due date is 4 weeks from today! I couldn’t be more excited! I reeealllyy hope that miss Stella decides to arrive early and not late. My back pain has miraculously gone away (for the most part). I still have heart burn, have to pee constantly and my left ankle has been swelling with both ankles feeling achy. I’ve gained 24lbs. Hoping that I don’t gain anymore as I have gained as much as I did at the end of my pregnancy with Ethan.

Ethan 2 1/2:

Today was Ethan’s 4th swimming lesson. His instructor says that he’s doing really well. The first lesson he was cautious, but didn’t cry. 2nd and 3rd lessons, he cried quite a bit. Today, he was very cautious, but only cried when his instructor put his head under the water. He likes and feels comfortable floating on his back.

Last night we took Ethan to see his first movie at the theatre, Madagascar 3. He did really well! For the first 30 minutes he wouldn’t even grab popcorn he was so focused on the movie. He did well up until the last 10 minutes, when we left.

Ethan is still full of sass and is very sweet until we stop him from doing something he wants to do or tell him to stop a behavior. Being at the end of my pregnancy and pretty tired, I do let a few things slip, but we are trying really hard to be consistent and discipline him as much as possible. One thing that really works with him is saying if you listen and do x, y & z, you’ll get a special treat.

Bed time has been a breeze as we have our routine down. He sits for a couple of books in our lap on the rocking chair, hops in bed, we tuck him in, read a couple more books from the chair, hug, kiss say good night and leave. Nap time is another story… It is a battle every weekend. Probably because no weekend is the same so he can’t count on the same routine. Not sure how to fix that? But hopefully in time it will get easier.

Ethan has been singing for quite some time, but he’s been singing a ton lately. Some of his favorites are bumble bee, itsy bitsy spider, BINGO, Old McDonald and twinkle twinkle.

For the past month or 2 Ethan has been all about the Ipad and Iphone. He knows how to do everything on both from turning the volume up or down, to finding where his apps are to navigating all of his apps and starting movies. We are going to have to start regulating and limiting the time he spends on there. If we let him, he’d probably be on them all day.

Hopefully Stella will be here for my next post so stay tuned 🙂

Ethan 28 months/ 30 weeks Pregnant

10 weeks to go until my due date! I’m at the point now that I can’t wait, I am ready to meet her! The pregnancy is still going well, minus lower back pain (and sciatica) and heartburn. I forgot how bad the heartburn gets in the 3rd trimester, the only thing that helps is Tums.

I’ve been going to my chiropractor almost every week to help with my sciatica. He tried a new treatment on my last visit and it seemed to help a lot. He had me lay on 2 blocks with my lower back, the goal was to push my pelvis back together to relieve pressure on my sciatic nerve and I think it did what it was supposed to.

I’ve gained 18 lbs so far (3 lbs more than last pregnancy at this time). Total gain last time was 24 lbs, so hopefully I come in close this time around.

Ethan is almost fully potty trained. He has an accident probably every other day but is doing really well overall. I was surprised at how quickly he got the hang of it. We did have a set back last weekend when we went out of town. He had nonstop accidents all weekend, but has been back to his good habits all of this week now that we’re back in our routine.

The hardest part for kids (I’ve learned most kids) about potty training is going #2. They hold it and are afraid to go, some will only go at home. After the first few very scary times, Ethan’s (for the most part) got the hang of that part too.

My personal struggle with the potty training is public restrooms. I’m a bit of a germa-phobe and when he tells me he has to go potty while we are out, I start freaking out. Without fail he touches the toilet with his hands and legs, shorts and underwear touch the floor :/. The seat covers just don’t work with such a little bottom, and one toilet we went to was far too big for him to sit. I ended up holding him over the toilet and he was able to go. I found a potty protecter online that I’m going to purchase that covers the entire seat. I hope it works well because it’s going to be too much for me to handle otherwise.

Here are a couple of cute Ethan comments in the past couple of weeks.

We have been using 1, 2, 3 magic. Last night Jarrod said “1”, then Ethan said “don’t count”, Jarrod said “2” Ethan said “don’t count dad”. We struggled to keep a straight face through that one.

I ask him a million questions about his day when I pick him up from school and the last couple of times he has told me either to “stop talking” or  to “let me talk mom”.

For some reason the other funny sayings are escaping me, there are loads of them! I’ll post more next blog.

I’ve still been having fun with Ethan’s Planet Box lunch. Here’s a picture of one his lunches from last week. I also went to his open house at school, and here’s a picture of him doing one of his jobs, “cutting”.

37 Weeks Pregnant

Ethan is finally considered full-term which is pretty exciting! Unfortunately though my 37th week has gotten off to a bit of a rocky start. I’m feeling pretty good for the most part but my blood pressure has been really high. I’ve been tracking it for the past few days. I called my Dr. to let her know it hadn’t been great and she had me come in today. She did an exam (I’m still 1cm dilated and 50% effaced) and told me that if my bottom blood pressure number went to 100 to call labor and delivery. I was at work today and my blood pressure was 151 over 101. So, I called labor and delivery and my husband and I headed to the hospital. They kept me under observation for a couple of hours. My blood pressure returned to normal levels and Ethan’s stats were good. The Dr. that was on call at the hospital signed me up for fetal monitoring twice a week, just to be safe. I’ll go in for that on Thursday and have another Dr’s appt. on Thursday as well. I’ll keep you posted. My Dr. also told me that I shouldn’t be working so I’m going to start working from home hopefully tomorrow. Well that’s all for now, I’ll post again soon.

35 week Dr. Appt.

So I went in today for my now weekly Dr.’s visit. The results from my urine test came back negative thankfully, so I don’t have preeclampsia. Just hypertension… My blood pressure was under 140 and 90 today which was great. I am 1cm dilated and 50 % effaced! That made me pretty excited to know things are in progress. When I was at the Dr. last week I was nothing. The Dr. told me that if she had to make a guess, Ethan will be here in 2 to 3 weeks! That made me even more excited! All in all a good day and a good appointment. 2009 has been an amazing year and I just know 2010 is going to be a great year too. Happy New Years everyone 🙂

35 Weeks Pregnant

We just got home from our 35 week ultrasound. Ethan is in the correct position (head down) and as far as we can tell everything looks great! We’ll get confirmation from the Dr. in a couple of days as the tech said she’s not supposed to tell us anything. She was really chatty and nice, and I got the impression everything is good. My Feb. 1 due date is still accurate as far as she can tell. There is no doubt that he’s a boy. We got lots of clear views of that once again. His heart rate is at 120.

I’ve been having blood pressure concerns again. When it’s been taken at the Dr.’s office it’s been about 140/90 which my Dr. is not happy about. When I take it at home, it seems to be in the normal range… Maybe the Dr.’s office just makes me nervous. Because of the high blood pressure I had to do a 24 hour urine sample yesterday to make sure there is no protein in my urine. If there is, it’s a sign of Preeclampsia. I have a feeling it will come back fine.

I’ve still been having pretty bad heartburn, some back pain but other than that I’m feeling good. Ethan’s feet have been all up in my ribs which can be pretty uncomfortable. I’ve gained 19lbs so far. I forgot to take a 34 week pic, but will upload my 33 week and 35 week belly pics soon.

34 Weeks Pregnant

Today I’m 34 weeks pregnant. I can’t believe (and am so excited) that Ethan will be considered full-term in 3 weeks!! My weight gain is now about 18 pounds. I’m pretty happy that it’s keeping in check. I have a doctor’s appt. in 2 days and have an ultrasound scheduled for the 28th. I’m always anxious for my doctor’s appts..

Hopefully everything is going well. It feels like it is. He’s been moving quite a bit and I think I’ve been having contractions. I went to Starbucks last week with 2 friends that recently had babies and one of them explained to me what her contractions felt like. Before that, I didn’t think I’d had any. The way she described them to me was that you feel your belly get tight and see your belly stick out in an area. I always thought that it must’ve been Ethan’s bottom, head etc. sticking up, but she told me that it was a contraction.

I’m feeling great as far as the pregnancy goes. My back hasn’t been hurting as much and my energy levels are still pretty good. The one thing that has been bad is my heartburn. I have it constantly, in fact I only have 2 tums left so I need to make a trip to the store.

On another note, I had some very sad family news today. My granny who was battling leukemia and a few other ailments, has passed away. She was an amazing Granny and she will be missed. The hardest part is that she lived in South Africa so I won’t be able to be there with the rest of my family. With Ethan’s birth knocking at the door, I’m sure there will be a little piece of her in him.

Diapers.Com

One of my friends who recently had a baby boy told me about Diapers.com. Their prices (from what I have seen) are more competitive than any other place I’ve shopped. They have almost everything, you can even do your registry with them. If you spend over $49 shipping is free and the items are delivered in 2 days.

I made my first purchase with them today (Saturday)  everything is supposed to be delivered by Monday for free. They had a bunch of coupon codes on their website, so everything I purchased was 10% off, I got $5 off my order and there was a $2 off coupon for the diapers.

They also have a referral program. My referral code is LXLL5040. If someone enters my code for their first purchase, they’ll get $10 off their first order of diapers. I get a $1 credit to my account for each referral and $1 credit every time they make a purchse.

They also have a section of green baby items. Everything from organic lotions, detergents to organic toys. I will definitely be making some purchases from this area next time around.

In case you’re curious, here’s what I bought. I think I have almost everything we need!
